Engdahl and Free Will

When Elisabet Engdahl turned 65 in 2014, she was presented with a booklet of mysterious linguistic examples, contributed by her students and collaborators. Here is my contribution.

It harks back to the Scandinavian project Comparative Semantics for Nordic Languages (NORDSEM) in the late 1990s, where some of us worked on Free Choice items.

It is in Swedish. Example (3) could be paraphrased thus:

  1. «With this ticket I can go where I want to go.»
    «No you can't – it's only valid as far as Alingsås!»
    «That's right. That's where I want to go.»
